The quartet was founded in 1997 by four talented musicians, violinists Friedemann Eichhorn and Conrad Muck, violist Andreas Arndt, and cellist Martin Löhr. The ensemble has since become one of the most sought-after string quartets in the world, known for their impeccable technique, musicality, and passion for chamber music. The Petersen Quartet's founding members all had impressive musical backgrounds before coming together to form the ensemble. Friedemann Eichhorn, born in 1971 in Heidelberg, Germany, began playing the violin at the age of six and went on to study at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hannover and the Juilliard School in New York. Conrad Muck, born in 1969 in Munich, Germany, also started playing the violin at a young age and studied at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich and the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse in Paris. Andreas Arndt, born in 1968 in Berlin, Germany, began playing the viola at the age of ten and studied at the Hochschule für Musik "Hanns Eisler" in Berlin. Martin Löhr, born in 1968 in Frankfurt, Germany, started playing the cello at the age of seven and studied at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Frankfurt and the Juilliard School in New York. The Petersen Quartet's first major performance was in 1998 at the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival in Germany, where they received critical acclaim for their interpretation of Beethoven's String Quartet No. 14. The quartet quickly gained a reputation for their dynamic and expressive performances, and they were soon invited to perform at major music festivals and concert halls around the world. One of the Petersen Quartet's most notable performances was at the 2002 Salzburg Festival, where they performed a program of works by Mozart, Beethoven, and Schubert. The quartet's interpretation of Schubert's String Quartet No. 14 in D minor, also known as "Death and the Maiden," was particularly praised for its emotional depth and intensity. The performance was later released on CD and received widespread critical acclaim. In addition to their performances, the Petersen Quartet has also been recognized for their recordings. Their 2005 recording of Beethoven's String Quartets Nos. 1-3 was awarded the Diapason d'Or, one of the most prestigious awards in classical music. The quartet has also recorded works by Mozart, Schubert, Brahms, and Mendelssohn, among others. The Petersen Quartet has undergone some changes in its lineup over the years. In 2009, violist Andreas Arndt left the ensemble and was replaced by violist Liisa Randalu. Randalu, born in 1983 in Tallinn, Estonia, had already established herself as a talented musician, having won numerous awards and performed with major orchestras around the world. She quickly became an integral part of the Petersen Quartet, bringing her own unique musical perspective to the ensemble. The Petersen Quartet's current lineup consists of violinists Friedemann Eichhorn and Annegret Kuttner, violist Liisa Randalu, and cellist Martin Löhr. The quartet continues to perform at major music festivals and concert halls around the world, and they are known for their innovative programming and commitment to exploring new works as well as the classics.More....
