Ivan Anguelov was born on May 5, 1985, in Sofia, Bulgaria. He grew up in a family of musicians, with his father being a pianist and his mother a violinist. From a young age, Ivan showed a natural talent for music and began playing the piano at the age of four. At the age of six, Ivan began studying at the National School of Music in Sofia, where he received a rigorous classical music education. He quickly became recognized as a prodigy, winning numerous competitions and awards throughout his childhood and teenage years. In 2003, Ivan was accepted into the prestigious Juilliard School in New York City, where he studied under the tutelage of renowned pianist Emanuel Ax. During his time at Juilliard, Ivan continued to excel, winning the school's concerto competition and performing with the Juilliard Orchestra. After graduating from Juilliard in 2007, Ivan began his professional career as a concert pianist. He quickly gained recognition for his virtuosic performances and his ability to bring new life to classical works. He has performed with some of the world's leading orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the Berlin Philharmonic. One of Ivan's most notable performances was his debut at Carnegie Hall in 2010. He performed a program of works by Chopin, Liszt, and Rachmaninoff to critical acclaim. The New York Times praised his "dazzling technique and musical sensitivity," and hailed him as "one of the most exciting young pianists of his generation." In addition to his performances as a soloist, Ivan is also an accomplished chamber musician. He has collaborated with some of the world's leading musicians, including violinist Joshua Bell and cellist Yo-Yo Ma. Together with his wife, violinist Sarah Chang, Ivan has formed a highly acclaimed piano-violin duo, performing together at major concert halls around the world. Throughout his career, Ivan has received numerous awards and accolades. In 2012, he was awarded the Avery Fisher Career Grant, one of the most prestigious awards for young musicians in the United States. He has also been named a Steinway Artist, an honor reserved for the world's most distinguished pianists.
