Artist Info
Birth:1976 in Lausanne, SwitzerlandCédric Pescia is a Swiss classical pianist who has gained international recognition for his virtuosic performances and insightful interpretations of a wide range of repertoire. Born in Lausanne, Switzerland in 1976, Pescia began playing the piano at the age of six and quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument. He studied with renowned teachers such as Maria João Pires, Murray Perahia, and Andreas Staier, and went on to win numerous awards and competitions throughout his career. Pescia's early performances were marked by a deep sensitivity and musicality that belied his young age. He made his debut at the age of 16 with the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, playing Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 20 in D minor. This performance was widely praised for its maturity and technical brilliance, and marked the beginning of Pescia's career as a soloist. Over the years, Pescia has performed with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Orchestre de Paris, and the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich. He has also collaborated with some of the most distinguished conductors of our time, such as Sir Simon Rattle, Vladimir Jurowski, and Philippe Herreweghe. One of Pescia's most notable achievements was his performance of Bach's Goldberg Variations at the Wigmore Hall in London in 2008. This performance was widely regarded as a landmark event in the history of the work, and cemented Pescia's reputation as one of the foremost interpreters of Bach's keyboard music. He has since recorded the Goldberg Variations for the label Aeon, to critical acclaim. Pescia's repertoire is wide-ranging and eclectic, encompassing works from the Baroque to the contemporary period. He has a particular affinity for the music of Schumann, and has recorded several of the composer's major works, including the Davidsbündlertänze and the Kreisleriana. He has also championed the music of lesser-known composers, such as the Swiss composer Frank Martin, whose Piano Concerto No. 2 he recorded with the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande. In addition to his work as a soloist, Pescia is also an active chamber musician. He has collaborated with many of the world's leading instrumentalists and singers, including the cellist Jean-Guihen Queyras, the violinist Isabelle Faust, and the baritone Christian Gerhaher. He is a founding member of the Trio Rafale, with whom he has recorded several albums of chamber music. Pescia's recordings have received widespread critical acclaim, and he has won numerous awards for his performances. His recording of Schumann's Davidsbündlertänze was named "Recording of the Month" by Gramophone magazine, and his recording of Bach's Goldberg Variations was awarded the Diapason d'Or. He has also been awarded the Prix Credit Suisse Jeunes Solistes and the Prix de la Fondation Vaudoise pour la Culture. Despite his many achievements, Pescia remains a humble and dedicated musician, constantly striving to deepen his understanding of the music he plays. He is known for his thoughtful and insightful interpretations, and for his ability to bring out the emotional depth and complexity of even the most technically demanding works. He continues to perform regularly throughout Europe and the United States, and is widely regarded as one of the most exciting and innovative pianists of his generation.More....
