He received his early musical training at the Royal Manchester College of Music, where he studied with the renowned pianist and teacher, Ryszard Bakst. He has also collaborated with many of the world's leading conductors, including Sir Simon Rattle, Sir Colin Davis, and Sir Neville Marriner. One of Crossley's most notable performances was his interpretation of Olivier Messiaen's "Vingt Regards sur l'Enfant-Jésus" (Twenty Contemplations on the Infant Jesus), which he performed at the Edinburgh Festival in 1981. The performance was widely acclaimed by critics and helped to establish Crossley as a leading interpreter of contemporary music. Crossley has also made numerous recordings throughout his career, including several highly acclaimed recordings of the music of Claude Debussy. His recording of Debussy's complete piano works, which was released in 1994, received widespread critical acclaim and helped to establish Crossley as one of the leading interpreters of Debussy's music.
