Genre:ChamberOrchestralAlbert Regni was a renowned classical music artist who made significant contributions to the world of music. He was born on August 31, 1935, in New York City, United States. Regni was raised in a family of musicians, and his father was a professional saxophonist. He started playing the saxophone at a young age and showed exceptional talent in music. Regni attended the Juilliard School of Music in New York City, where he studied under the guidance of Joseph Allard, a renowned saxophonist. He graduated from Juilliard in 1957 with a Bachelor of Music degree. Regni continued his studies at the Manhattan School of Music, where he earned a Master of Music degree in 1960. After completing his studies, Regni began his professional career as a saxophonist. He joined the New York City Ballet Orchestra in 1960 and became the principal saxophonist in 1962. Regni remained with the orchestra for over 50 years and played in numerous performances, including the world premiere of Stravinsky's "Agon" in 1957. Regni was also a member of the New York Philharmonic Orchestra, where he played the saxophone, clarinet, and flute. He joined the orchestra in 1961 and remained a member until 1973. During his time with the New York Philharmonic, Regni played in several notable performances, including the world premiere of Leonard Bernstein's "Mass" in 1971. In addition to his work with orchestras, Regni was also a prolific soloist and chamber musician. He performed in numerous concerts and recitals throughout the United States and Europe. Regni was known for his virtuosic playing and his ability to interpret a wide range of musical styles. Regni was also a respected educator and taught at several institutions, including the Manhattan School of Music, the Juilliard School, and the Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College. He was a dedicated teacher who inspired many young musicians to pursue careers in music. Throughout his career, Regni received numerous awards and honors for his contributions to the world of music. In 2009, he was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by the North American Saxophone Alliance. He was also a recipient of the National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Masters Fellowship in 2010.
