The orchestra was established with the aim of promoting Georgian classical music and showcasing the country's rich cultural heritage to the world. The orchestra is made up of some of the most talented musicians in Georgia, many of whom have performed with some of the world's most renowned orchestras. The ensemble's main members include conductor Vakhtang Kakhidze, violinist Liana Isakadze, and pianist Nino Gvetadze. Vakhtang Kakhidze is a highly respected conductor who has worked with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra. He has also conducted numerous operas and ballets, including productions at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow and the Royal Opera House in London. Liana Isakadze is a world-renowned violinist who has won numerous awards for her performances, including the Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow and the Sibelius Competition in Helsinki. She has performed with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the New York Philharmonic. Nino Gvetadze is a highly acclaimed pianist who has won numerous awards for her performances, including the prestigious Borletti-Buitoni Trust Award. She has performed with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam and the London Philharmonic Orchestra. Since its founding, the Georgian Festival Orchestra has performed at many of the world's leading concert halls, including the Royal Albert Hall in London, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the Carnegie Hall in New York. The ensemble has also performed at numerous music festivals, including the Edinburgh International Festival, the Salzburg Festival, and the BBC Proms. One of the highlights of the Georgian Festival Orchestra's performances was its concert at the Royal Albert Hall in London in 2016. The concert featured a program of Georgian classical music, including works by composers such as Giya Kancheli and Otar Taktakishvili. The concert was highly praised by critics and was broadcast on BBC Radio 3. In addition to its performances, the Georgian Festival Orchestra has also won numerous awards for its recordings. The ensemble's recording of Giya Kancheli's Symphony No. 7 won the prestigious Diapason d'Or award in 2017, and its recording of Otar Taktakishvili's Piano Concerto No. 1 won the Grand Prix du Disque award in 2018.
