Role:EnsembleTrio Hochelaga is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2000 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The ensemble is named after the Hochelaga Archipelago, which is a group of islands located in the St. Lawrence River near Montreal. The trio consists of three main members: Anne Robert on violin, Paul Marleyn on cello, and Stéphane Lemelin on piano. Anne Robert was born in Montreal and began playing the violin at the age of four. She studied at the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal and later at the Juilliard School in New York. She has performed as a soloist with many orchestras, including the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, and the National Arts Centre Orchestra. Paul Marleyn was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and began playing the cello at the age of six. He studied at the University of Manitoba and later at the Juilliard School. He has performed as a soloist with many orchestras, including the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, the National Arts Centre Orchestra, and the Orchestre Métropolitain. Stéphane Lemelin was born in Quebec City, Quebec, and began playing the piano at the age of six. He studied at the Conservatoire de musique de Québec and later at the Juilliard School. He has performed as a soloist with many orchestras, including the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, and the National Arts Centre Orchestra. The trio has performed extensively throughout Canada and the United States, as well as in Europe and Asia. They have performed at many prestigious venues, including Carnegie Hall in New York, the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., and the Wigmore Hall in London. One of the highlights of Trio Hochelaga's career was their performance at the 2006 Montreal International Musical Competition. They were awarded the Grand Prize, which included a cash prize of $30,000 and a recording contract with the Analekta label. Their winning performance included works by Beethoven, Brahms, and Ravel. In addition to their success at the Montreal International Musical Competition, Trio Hochelaga has also been recognized with several other awards and honors. They were awarded the Prix Opus for Best Concert of the Year in 2004 and 2007, and they were nominated for a Juno Award in 2008 for their album "Beethoven: Piano Trios." Trio Hochelaga has also been committed to promoting new music and commissioning works by Canadian composers.
