He later continued his studies at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague, where he was taught by the legendary pianist and pedagogue, Rudolf Firkušný. In 1970, Kvapil won the prestigious Prague Spring International Music Competition, which marked the beginning of his illustrious career.
