Camerata Singers is a classical music ensemble that has been captivating audiences with their beautiful harmonies and stunning performances for over 50 years. Founded in 1968 by Dr. Robert Shaw, the group has become one of the most respected and renowned choral ensembles in the United States. Dr. Shaw, a renowned conductor and choral director, had a vision of creating a group of singers who could perform a wide range of choral music at the highest level of excellence. He handpicked a group of talented singers from the local community and formed the Camerata Singers. The group quickly gained a reputation for their exceptional musicianship and their ability to perform a diverse range of choral music, from Renaissance motets to contemporary works. Over the years, the ensemble has had many talented members, including some who have gone on to become successful soloists and conductors in their own right. Some of the most notable members of the group include sopranos Dawn Upshaw and Sylvia McNair, tenor Vinson Cole, and baritone William Sharp. Camerata Singers has performed at some of the most prestigious venues in the world, including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and the Kennedy Center. They have also collaborated with some of the most renowned conductors and orchestras, including Leonard Bernstein, Seiji Ozawa, and the Boston Symphony Orchestra. One of the highlights of the group's career was their performance of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony with the Boston Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Leonard Bernstein. The performance was hailed as a triumph, with critics praising the group's precision and clarity of sound. Camerata Singers has also been recognized with numerous awards and accolades over the years. In 1984, they were awarded the prestigious Margaret Hillis Award for Choral Excellence by Chorus America. They have also been nominated for several Grammy Awards for their recordings, including their recording of Brahms' Ein Deutsches Requiem.
