Born on 22nd June 1952 in Wales, Jenkins grew up in a musical family and showed an early interest in music. He began his musical training at the age of eight, learning to play the piano and the violin. However, it was his singing talent that stood out, and he soon began to focus on developing his voice. Jenkins received his formal musical education at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff, where he studied under the guidance of renowned vocal coaches such as Margaret Price and Geraint Evans. He graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree in 1974 and went on to pursue further studies at the National Opera Studio in London. Jenkins made his professional debut in 1976, singing the role of the First Armed Man in Mozart's "The Magic Flute" at the Welsh National Opera. He quickly established himself as a versatile and talented singer, capable of performing a wide range of roles in both opera and concert settings. Over the years, he has performed with some of the world's leading opera companies, including the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, the Metropolitan Opera, and the Paris Opera. One of Jenkins' most notable performances was his portrayal of the title role in Benjamin Britten's "Peter Grimes" at the Royal Opera House in 1995.
