Born on August 12, 1894, in the city of Münster, Germany, Rehkemper showed an early interest in music and began playing the piano at a young age. He received his first formal music education at the Münster Conservatory, where he studied under the tutelage of renowned pianist and composer, Max von Schillings. Rehkemper's talent and dedication to music were evident from an early age, and he quickly gained recognition as a gifted pianist. In 1913, he won the prestigious Mendelssohn Prize for his outstanding performance of Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5. This early success set the stage for a long and illustrious career in music. After completing his studies at the Münster Conservatory, Rehkemper continued his education at the Hochschule für Musik in Berlin, where he studied under the guidance of renowned pianist and composer, Ferruccio Busoni.
