Born on September 11, 1960, in Mexico City, Vargas grew up in a musical family and began singing at a young age. His father was a singer and his mother was a pianist, and they encouraged him to pursue his passion for music. Vargas began his formal music education at the National Conservatory of Music in Mexico City, where he studied under the guidance of soprano Irma González. He later continued his studies in Italy with Carlo Bergonzi and in New York with William Schuman. Vargas made his professional debut in 1983 at the Bellas Artes Opera House in Mexico City, where he performed the role of Alfredo in Verdi's La Traviata. He quickly gained recognition for his powerful voice and his ability to convey emotion through his performances. In 1986, Vargas made his European debut at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, where he performed the role of Edgardo in Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor. This performance was a major turning point in his career, as it led to numerous invitations to perform at other major opera houses around the world. Over the years, Vargas has performed in many of the world's most prestigious opera houses, including the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the Royal Opera House in London, the Paris Opera, and the Vienna State Opera.
