Genre:ChamberHåkan Rosengren is a renowned Swedish clarinetist who has made a significant contribution to the world of classical music. Born on August 7, 1949, in Stockholm, Sweden, Rosengren grew up in a family of musicians. His father was a violinist, and his mother was a pianist. Rosengren started playing the clarinet at the age of ten and quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument. Rosengren's early musical education was at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, where he studied with the renowned clarinetist, Professor Kjell-Inge Stevensson. After completing his studies, Rosengren began his professional career as a clarinetist in the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra. He quickly established himself as one of the leading clarinetists in Sweden and was soon in demand as a soloist and chamber musician. In 1975, Rosengren was appointed principal clarinetist of the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, a position he held for over twenty years. During his time with the orchestra, Rosengren performed as a soloist in many of the major works for clarinet and orchestra, including Mozart's Clarinet Concerto, Weber's Clarinet Concerto No. 1, and Copland's Clarinet Concerto. In addition to his work with the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, Rosengren was also a member of the Chamber Music Society of Gothenburg, where he performed with some of the world's leading chamber musicians. He also performed regularly with the Stockholm Chamber Orchestra and the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra. Rosengren's international career began in the 1980s when he was invited to perform as a soloist with the London Symphony Orchestra. This led to many other engagements with major orchestras around the world, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the Vienna Philharmonic, and the New York Philharmonic. One of the highlights of Rosengren's career was his performance of the Nielsen Clarinet Concerto with the Berlin Philharmonic under the baton of Herbert von Karajan. The performance was widely acclaimed, and Rosengren was praised for his virtuosic playing and his ability to bring out the emotional depth of the music. Rosengren has also been a champion of contemporary music and has premiered many works by Swedish composers, including Anders Hillborg, Sven-David Sandström, and Karin Rehnqvist. He has also collaborated with jazz musicians, including the Swedish jazz pianist Jan Johansson. In addition to his performing career, Rosengren has also been a dedicated teacher. He has taught at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm and the Gothenburg University School of Music. Many of his students have gone on to successful careers as clarinetists, both in Sweden and internationally. Rosengren has received many awards and honors throughout his career, including the Litteris et Artibus medal from the Swedish government, the Royal Swedish Academy of Music's Litteris et Artibus medal, and the Nordic Council Music Prize. In 2019, he was awarded the prestigious Royal Philharmonic Society Gold Medal, which is awarded to musicians who have made a significant contribution to the world of classical music. Today, Rosengren continues to perform and teach, and he remains one of the most respected and admired clarinetists in the world. His dedication to his craft and his passion for music have inspired generations of musicians and music lovers alike.More....
