Born on May 22, 1978, in Bratislava, Slovakia, Fortín showed an early interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of six. He quickly demonstrated a natural talent for the instrument and began taking lessons with some of the best teachers in the country. As a young musician, Fortín was heavily influenced by the works of classical composers such as Beethoven, Chopin, and Liszt. He spent countless hours practicing and studying their music, and by the time he was a teenager, he had already won several awards for his performances. In 1996, Fortín was accepted into the prestigious Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava, where he studied under the guidance of renowned pianist and teacher Marián Lapšanský. During his time at the academy, Fortín continued to hone his skills as a pianist and also began to explore his interest in conducting and composition. After graduating from the academy in 2001, Fortín began to establish himself as a professional musician. He quickly gained a reputation as a talented and versatile pianist, and he was soon in demand as a soloist and chamber musician. He also began to conduct orchestras and choirs, and his compositions were performed by some of the leading ensembles in Slovakia. One of the highlights of Fortín's early career was his performance at the 2002 International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw, Poland.
