Elli Jaffe was a renowned classical music artist who was born on August 13, 1937, in Berlin, Germany. He was born into a family of musicians, and his father was a cantor and composer. Jaffe's family moved to Israel when he was just a child, and he grew up in Jerusalem. He began his musical training at a young age, studying piano and composition with some of the most prominent teachers in Israel. Jaffe's talent was evident from an early age, and he quickly became known as a prodigy. He made his debut as a pianist at the age of 12, performing with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra. He continued to perform as a soloist throughout his teenage years, and he also began to develop an interest in conducting. In 1956, Jaffe moved to the United States to study at the Juilliard School in New York City. He studied piano with Rosina Lhévinne and conducting with Jean Morel. He also studied composition with Vincent Persichetti and conducting with Leonard Bernstein. Jaffe's career as a conductor began to take off in the 1960s. He served as the assistant conductor of the New York Philharmonic under Leonard Bernstein, and he also conducted the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra and the London Symphony Orchestra. He was known for his dynamic and expressive conducting style, and he quickly became one of the most sought-after conductors of his generation. Jaffe's career as a pianist also continued to flourish. He performed as a soloist with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and the Berlin Philharmonic. He was known for his virtuosic technique and his ability to bring out the emotional depth of the music he played. In addition to his work as a conductor and pianist, Jaffe was also a prolific composer. He wrote music for orchestra, chamber ensembles, and solo instruments.
