Luben Yordanoff was a renowned classical music artist who was born on August 22, 1936, in Sofia, Bulgaria. He was born into a family of musicians, and his father was a violinist in the Bulgarian National Radio Symphony Orchestra. Luben Yordanoff started playing the violin at the age of six, and he quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument. At the age of 14, Luben Yordanoff won first prize in the National Violin Competition in Bulgaria, which was a significant achievement for such a young musician. He continued his studies at the State Academy of Music in Sofia, where he studied with some of the most prominent violin teachers in Bulgaria. In 1959, Luben Yordanoff was awarded a scholarship to study at the Moscow Conservatory in Russia, where he studied with the renowned violinist David Oistrakh. During his time in Moscow, Luben Yordanoff won several awards and prizes, including the First Prize at the International Tchaikovsky Competition in 1962. After completing his studies in Moscow, Luben Yordanoff moved to Paris, where he continued to perform and record extensively. He became a member of the Orchestre de Paris in 1970, and he remained with the orchestra for over 20 years. During his time with the Orchestre de Paris, Luben Yordanoff performed under the baton of some of the most famous conductors of the time, including Herbert von Karajan, Leonard Bernstein, and Daniel Barenboim. Luben Yordanoff was also a prolific recording artist, and he recorded over 50 albums during his career. His recordings included works by some of the most famous composers in the classical music canon, including Bach, Beethoven, Brahms, Mozart, and Tchaikovsky. One of the highlights of Luben Yordanoff's career was his performance of the Brahms Violin Concerto with the Orchestre de Paris under the baton of Daniel Barenboim in 1983. The performance was widely acclaimed by critics and audiences alike, and it cemented Luben Yordanoff's reputation as one of the finest violinists of his generation. In addition to his performing and recording career, Luben Yordanoff was also a respected teacher. He taught at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris, where he mentored many young violinists who went on to have successful careers in their own right. Luben Yordanoff received many awards and honors during his career, including the Order of Arts and Letters from the French government in 1990. He was also awarded the title of Chevalier de la Légion d'honneur in 1997, which is one of the highest honors that can be bestowed upon a civilian in France. Luben Yordanoff passed away on December 5, 2019, at the age of 83. His legacy as a musician and teacher continues to inspire generations of violinists around the world.
