Música Ficta is a renowned classical music ensemble that specializes in performing music from the Renaissance and Baroque periods. The ensemble was founded in 1990 by the Colombian conductor and musicologist, Carlos Serrano, who remains its artistic director to this day. Serrano's vision for Música Ficta was to create an ensemble that would explore the rich and diverse repertoire of early music, with a particular focus on the music of Latin America. He assembled a group of talented musicians who shared his passion for this music, and together they began to build a reputation for their innovative and engaging performances. The core members of Música Ficta are Carlos Serrano (conductor and harpsichordist), Patricia González (soprano), Juan Carlos Rivera (countertenor), and Carlos Bonilla (tenor). Over the years, the ensemble has also collaborated with a number of guest musicians, including instrumentalists and vocalists. One of the highlights of Música Ficta's career was their performance at the Festival Internacional de Música de Cartagena de Indias in 1994. This festival is one of the most prestigious classical music events in Latin America, and Música Ficta's performance was widely acclaimed for its virtuosity and musicality. In 1996, Música Ficta released their first album, "Música Barroca Latinoamericana", which featured music from the colonial period in Latin America. The album was a critical and commercial success, and helped to establish the ensemble as one of the leading interpreters of early music in the region. Since then, Música Ficta has released several more albums, including "Canciones y Danzas de España" (2000), "Música de la Nueva España" (2003), and "Música de la Catedral de México" (2010). These albums have received numerous awards and accolades, including a Latin Grammy nomination for "Música de la Nueva España". In addition to their recordings, Música Ficta has also performed at some of the most prestigious concert halls and festivals in the world. They have appeared at the Lincoln Center in New York, the Royal Festival Hall in London, and the Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City, among many others. One of the most memorable performances in Música Ficta's history was their collaboration with the renowned Spanish theater company, La Fura dels Baus, in 2004. The two groups joined forces to create a multimedia production of Monteverdi's "L'Orfeo", which was performed at the Teatro Real in Madrid. The production was a huge success, and showcased Música Ficta's versatility and creativity. Over the years, Música Ficta has received numerous awards and honors for their contributions to the world of early music. In 2002, they were awarded the National Music Prize by the Colombian Ministry of Culture, in recognition of their outstanding achievements in the field. They have also been recognized by the Latin American Music Awards, the Premios Shock de la Música, and the Premios Nuestra Tierra, among others. Today, Música Ficta continues to be one of the most respected and innovative ensembles in the world of early music.
