Born on February 2, 1966, in Vienna, Austria, Edelmann was born into a family of musicians. His father, Otto Edelmann, was a famous Austrian bass-baritone singer, and his mother, Edith Lienbacher, was a pianist. Growing up, Edelmann was exposed to classical music from an early age, and he began singing in choirs and playing the piano at a young age. Edelmann's musical talent was evident from an early age, and he began his formal music education at the Vienna Music Academy. He studied voice with Hilde Rössel-Majdan and conducting with Karl Österreicher. After completing his studies, Edelmann made his professional debut in 1988 at the Vienna State Opera, where he performed the role of Papageno in Mozart's "The Magic Flute." Over the years, Edelmann has performed in some of the world's most prestigious opera houses and concert halls, including the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the Royal Opera House in London, and the Salzburg Festival. He has also collaborated with some of the world's most renowned conductors, including Claudio Abbado, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, and Riccardo Muti. One of Edelmann's most notable performances was his portrayal of the title role in Mozart's "Don Giovanni" at the Salzburg Festival in 1994. His performance was widely praised by critics, and it helped establish him as one of the leading baritone singers of his generation. He has also received critical acclaim for his performances in other Mozart operas, including "The Marriage of Figaro" and "Così fan tutte." In addition to his work as a singer, Edelmann is also an accomplished conductor.
