Born on September 7, 1934, in Marseille, France, Larrieu showed an early interest in music and began playing the flute at the age of 12. He studied at the Marseille Conservatory and later at the Paris Conservatory, where he won first prize in flute performance in 1956. After completing his studies, Larrieu began his professional career as a soloist and chamber musician. He quickly gained recognition for his virtuosic playing and musical sensitivity, and soon became one of the most sought-after flutists in the world. He has performed with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the New York Philharmonic. Larrieu's repertoire is vast and includes works from the Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and Contemporary periods. He is particularly known for his interpretations of the music of J.S. Bach, Mozart, and Debussy. His playing is characterized by a warm, rich tone, impeccable technique, and a deep understanding of the music he performs. Throughout his career, Larrieu has received numerous awards and honors. In 1961, he won the prestigious ARD International Music Competition in Munich, Germany.
