Artist Info
Arcangelo is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2010 by Jonathan Cohen, a renowned conductor, cellist, and keyboardist. The ensemble is based in London, England, and is known for its exceptional performances of Baroque and Classical music. Jonathan Cohen, who serves as the ensemble's artistic director, founded Arcangelo with the goal of creating a flexible and dynamic ensemble that could perform a wide range of repertoire. The ensemble's name is inspired by the Italian composer Arcangelo Corelli, who is considered one of the pioneers of Baroque music. The ensemble's core members include some of the most talented musicians in the classical music world. These include violinists Sophie Gent and Nadja Zwiener, violist Jane Rogers, cellist Jonathan Manson, and harpsichordist Thomas Dunford. The ensemble also collaborates with a range of guest artists, including singers and instrumentalists. Arcangelo has performed at some of the most prestigious venues and festivals in the world, including the BBC Proms, the Edinburgh International Festival, and the Salzburg Festival. The ensemble has also toured extensively throughout Europe, North America, and Asia. One of the highlights of Arcangelo's career was their performance of Handel's Messiah at the BBC Proms in 2012. The performance was widely praised for its energy, precision, and emotional depth. The ensemble has also received critical acclaim for their recordings of Handel's oratorios, including Saul and Israel in Egypt. In addition to their performances and recordings, Arcangelo is also committed to education and outreach. The ensemble regularly works with young musicians and participates in community events. They have also collaborated with organizations such as the National Youth Choir of Scotland and the Royal Academy of Music. Arcangelo has received numerous awards and accolades for their performances and recordings. In 2015, they won the Gramophone Award for Best Baroque Vocal Album for their recording of Bach's St John Passion. They have also been nominated for several other Gramophone Awards, as well as the BBC Music Magazine Awards. Overall, Arcangelo is a dynamic and versatile ensemble that has made a significant impact on the classical music world. With their exceptional musicianship, commitment to education and outreach, and dedication to exploring a wide range of repertoire, they are sure to continue to inspire and delight audiences for years to come.More....
