He was born on May 6, 1976, in Seville, Spain, to a family of musicians. His father, Abdelkader Alqhai, was a renowned oud player, and his mother, Maria Luisa Rodriguez, was a singer. Fahmi grew up in a musical environment and started playing the viola da gamba at the age of six. Fahmi Alqhai's musical education began at the Conservatory of Seville, where he studied the viola da gamba with Ventura Rico. He later continued his studies at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in Switzerland, where he studied with Jordi Savall and Paolo Pandolfo. During his time in Switzerland, Fahmi also studied composition with Rudolf Lutz. Fahmi Alqhai's career as a musician began in the early 1990s when he started performing with his father's ensemble, the Abdelkader Alqhai Ensemble. He later formed his own ensemble, Accademia del Piacere, in 2002. The ensemble specializes in the performance of early music, particularly the music of Spain and the Mediterranean. Fahmi Alqhai has performed in some of the world's most prestigious concert halls, including the Royal Albert Hall in London, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, and the Palau de la Música Catalana in Barcelona. He has also performed at numerous music festivals, including the Festival Internacional de Música y Danza de Granada, the Festival de Música Antigua de Úbeda y Baeza, and the Festival de Música Antigua de Aranjuez. One of Fahmi Alqhai's most significant achievements was his performance at the 2010 Proms in London.
