He was born into a family of musicians, and his father was a well-known conductor. Lev showed an interest in music from a young age and began playing the piano at the age of five. He later went on to study at the Moscow Conservatory, where he honed his skills as a pianist. During his time at the Moscow Conservatory, Lev Sibiriakov studied under some of the most renowned pianists of the time, including Yakov Flier and Emil Gilels. He quickly gained a reputation as a talented pianist and began performing in concerts across Russia. In 1969, he won first prize at the All-Union Piano Competition, which helped to launch his career as a professional musician. Lev Sibiriakov's career as a pianist took him all over the world, and he performed in some of the most prestigious concert halls in Europe and the United States. He was known for his technical skill and his ability to bring out the emotional depth of the music he played. He was particularly renowned for his interpretations of the works of Chopin, Beethoven, and Rachmaninoff. One of the highlights of Lev Sibiriakov's career was his performance at the Tchaikovsky Competition in 1974. This competition was one of the most prestigious piano competitions in the world, and Lev was one of the youngest competitors. Despite his youth, he impressed the judges with his technical skill and his emotional depth, and he was awarded second prize. In addition to his career as a pianist, Lev Sibiriakov was also a respected teacher. He taught at the Moscow Conservatory for many years, and many of his students went on to have successful careers as musicians. He also faced health problems later in life, which forced him to retire from performing. Lev Sibiriakov passed away on December 29, 2015, at the age of 68.
