"Judith" is an opera composed by Alexander Nikolayevich Serov, a Russian composer, and premiered on January 19, 1863, at the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg. The libretto was written by the composer's brother, Valerian Serov, based on the biblical story of Judith and Holofernes. The opera is divided into three acts and tells the story of Judith, a Jewish widow who saves her people from the Assyrian army by seducing and beheading their general, Holofernes.
