Engegårdkvartetten is a Norwegian classical music quartet that has been captivating audiences with their unique sound and style since their formation in 2006. The quartet consists of four talented musicians: Arvid Engegård on violin, Alex Robson on viola, Juliet Jopling on cello, and Jan Clemens Carlsen on violin. Arvid Engegård, the founder of the quartet, was born in Oslo, Norway in 1963. He began playing the violin at a young age and went on to study at the Norwegian Academy of Music and the Juilliard School in New York. Engegård has performed with numerous orchestras and ensembles around the world, including the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in London. In 2006, Engegård founded the Engegårdkvartetten with the goal of creating a quartet that would bring a fresh perspective to classical music. The quartet quickly gained a reputation for their innovative programming and dynamic performances, and they have since become one of the most sought-after chamber ensembles in Norway. One of the highlights of the Engegårdkvartetten's career was their performance at the 2010 Bergen International Festival, where they received critical acclaim for their interpretation of Beethoven's String Quartet No. 14. The quartet has also performed at numerous other festivals and venues around the world, including the Edinburgh International Festival, the Wigmore Hall in London, and the Konzerthaus in Vienna. In addition to their live performances, the Engegårdkvartetten has also released several recordings, including their debut album, "Haydn: String Quartets Op. 20," which was released in 2009. The album received widespread praise for its fresh interpretation of Haydn's music, and it helped to establish the quartet as a major force in the classical music world. Over the years, the Engegårdkvartetten has received numerous awards and accolades for their work. In 2011, they were awarded the prestigious Spellemannprisen, the Norwegian equivalent of the Grammy Awards, for their album "Grieg: String Quartets." The quartet has also been awarded the Norwegian Critics' Prize for Music and the Diapason d'Or award for their recordings. Despite their success, the Engegårdkvartetten remains committed to their mission of bringing a fresh perspective to classical music. They continue to push the boundaries of the genre with their innovative programming and dynamic performances, and they have inspired a new generation of classical music enthusiasts in Norway and beyond.
