Born in South Korea in 1979, Min began playing the piano at the age of three and quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument. Her parents recognized her potential and encouraged her to pursue a career in music, enrolling her in the Yewon School of Arts in Seoul at the age of six. Min's early training was rigorous and demanding, but she thrived under the guidance of her teachers and quickly developed a reputation as a prodigious young talent. She won her first major competition at the age of nine, taking first prize in the Korean National Music Competition. This early success set the stage for a career that would take her to the world's most prestigious concert halls and earn her critical acclaim from audiences and critics alike. In 1993, Min moved to the United States to continue her studies at the Juilliard School in New York City. There, she studied with some of the most renowned pianists of the day, including Yoheved Kaplinsky and Jerome Lowenthal. She also had the opportunity to perform in some of the city's most iconic venues, including Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center. Min's talent and hard work paid off in 1996, when she won the Grand Prix at the International Piano Competition in Senigallia, Italy. This was a major milestone in her career, and it helped to establish her as one of the most promising young pianists of her generation. She went on to win numerous other competitions in the years that followed, including the Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition in 2000 and the UNISA International Piano Competition in 2004. Throughout her career, Min has been known for her passionate and deeply expressive performances. She has a particular affinity for the music of Chopin, and her interpretations of his works have been praised for their sensitivity and nuance. She has also been a champion of contemporary music, commissioning and performing works by composers such as Lowell Liebermann and Michael Nyman. One of the highlights of Min's career came in 2007, when she performed at the opening ceremony of the Special Olympics World Summer Games in Shanghai, China. This was a particularly meaningful performance for Min, as she has long been an advocate for the power of music to bring people together and promote understanding and compassion. In addition to her performing career, Min is also a dedicated teacher and mentor.
