Artist Info
Romain Champion is a French classical pianist who has gained international recognition for his virtuosic performances and musical interpretations. Born on May 5, 1992, in Paris, France, Champion showed an early interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of six. He quickly demonstrated a natural talent for the instrument and began taking lessons with renowned piano teachers in France. Champion's musical education continued at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris, where he studied under the guidance of professors such as Michel Beroff and Jean-Francois Heisser. During his time at the conservatory, Champion won several awards and competitions, including the first prize at the International Piano Competition of Lagny-sur-Marne in 2008 and the first prize at the International Piano Competition of Brest in 2010. After completing his studies at the conservatory, Champion continued to refine his skills and expand his repertoire through masterclasses with some of the world's most renowned pianists, including Murray Perahia, Martha Argerich, and Krystian Zimerman. These experiences helped to shape Champion's musical style and approach, which is characterized by a deep understanding of the composer's intentions and a commitment to bringing out the emotional depth and complexity of the music. Champion's career as a professional pianist began to take off in the early 2010s, as he began to perform in major concert halls and festivals around the world. One of his most notable performances was at the 2012 International Piano Festival in La Roque d'Antheron, where he played a program of works by Chopin, Liszt, and Ravel to critical acclaim. He has also performed at the Salle Pleyel in Paris, the Konzerthaus in Berlin, and the Carnegie Hall in New York City, among other prestigious venues. In addition to his solo performances, Champion has also collaborated with a number of renowned orchestras and conductors. He has played with the Orchestre National de France, the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, and the Orchestre de Paris, among others. He has also worked with conductors such as Daniel Barenboim, Valery Gergiev, and Myung-Whun Chung. Champion's repertoire is wide-ranging and includes works by composers from the Baroque era to the present day. He is particularly known for his interpretations of the music of Chopin, Liszt, and Ravel, as well as for his performances of contemporary works by composers such as Pierre Boulez and Gyorgy Ligeti. His recordings, which include solo piano works as well as chamber music and orchestral collaborations, have received critical acclaim and have helped to establish him as one of the leading pianists of his generation. Throughout his career, Champion has received numerous awards and honors for his musical achievements. In 2013, he was awarded the Prix de la Révélation Classique by the French music magazine Diapason, which recognizes outstanding young musicians. He has also been a recipient of the Yamaha Music Foundation of Europe Scholarship and the Fondation Meyer Scholarship, which have helped to support his musical education and career. In addition to his work as a performer, Champion is also committed to music education and outreach. He has given masterclasses and workshops for young musicians in France and around the world, and has served as a jury member for several international piano competitions.More....
