Genre:ChoralThe Eric Ericson Chamber Choir is a renowned classical music ensemble that has been captivating audiences with its exceptional performances for over 70 years. The choir was founded in 1945 by the legendary Swedish conductor and choral director, Eric Ericson, who is widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in the world of choral music. Eric Ericson was born in 1918 in Boras, Sweden, and showed an early interest in music. He studied at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm and later at the Juilliard School in New York. In 1945, he founded the Eric Ericson Chamber Choir, which quickly gained a reputation for its exceptional performances and innovative approach to choral music. The choir's repertoire is diverse, ranging from Renaissance and Baroque music to contemporary works. Ericson was known for his meticulous attention to detail and his ability to bring out the best in his singers. He was also a champion of new music and commissioned many works from contemporary composers. Over the years, the Eric Ericson Chamber Choir has performed at some of the world's most prestigious venues, including Carnegie Hall in New York, the Royal Albert Hall in London, and the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. The choir has also collaborated with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the New York Philharmonic. One of the highlights of the choir's career was its performance at the 1998 Nobel Prize ceremony in Stockholm. The choir performed a piece by the Swedish composer Anders Hillborg, which was specially commissioned for the occasion. The performance was widely praised for its beauty and emotional power. The Eric Ericson Chamber Choir has also won numerous awards and accolades over the years. In 1961, the choir won first prize at the International Choral Competition in Arezzo, Italy. In 1988, the choir was awarded the Swedish Royal Academy of Music's prestigious Interpretation Prize. In 2004, the choir was awarded the Swedish Grammy for Best Classical Album for its recording of Bach's Mass in B Minor. The choir has had many talented members over the years, including some who have gone on to become successful soloists and conductors in their own right. One of the most notable members of the choir was the Swedish soprano, Barbara Hendricks, who sang with the choir in the 1970s. Eric Ericson remained the choir's conductor and artistic director until his death in 2013 at the age of 94. He was succeeded by his longtime assistant conductor, Fredrik Malmberg, who has continued to lead the choir with the same dedication and passion as his predecessor. Today, the Eric Ericson Chamber Choir continues to be one of the world's leading choral ensembles, known for its exceptional musicianship, innovative programming, and commitment to excellence. The choir's legacy is a testament to the vision and talent of its founder, Eric Ericson, and to the many talented singers and musicians who have been a part of the ensemble over the years.More....
