The ensemble consists of three members: violinist Anthea Kreston, cellist Stefan Koch, and pianist Elizabeth Joy Roe. The trio has gained recognition for their dynamic and expressive performances, which showcase their individual virtuosity and their ability to work together as a cohesive unit. Anthea Kreston, the violinist of Trio Artemis, was born in the United States and began playing the violin at the age of four. She studied at the Curtis Institute of Music and the New England Conservatory of Music, and has performed as a soloist with numerous orchestras around the world. Stefan Koch, the cellist of the ensemble, was born in Germany and began playing the cello at the age of six. He studied at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich and has performed with many orchestras in Europe and the United States. Elizabeth Joy Roe, the pianist of the trio, was born in the United States and began playing the piano at the age of three. She studied at the Juilliard School and has performed as a soloist with many orchestras around the world. The three musicians first met in 2009, when they were all studying at the Juilliard School. They quickly discovered a shared passion for chamber music and began playing together as Trio Artemis. The ensemble takes its name from the Greek goddess of the hunt, who was known for her strength, agility, and grace. These qualities are reflected in the trio's performances, which are characterized by their precision, energy, and emotional depth. Since their founding, Trio Artemis has performed at many prestigious venues around the world, including Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and the Berlin Philharmonic. They have also collaborated with many renowned musicians, including violinist Midori and cellist Yo-Yo Ma. In 2012, the trio was awarded the Kalichstein-Laredo-Robinson International Trio Award, which recognizes outstanding young piano trios. One of the highlights of Trio Artemis's career was their performance at the 2014 Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center's annual "Meet the Music" concert series. The series, which is designed to introduce young audiences to classical music, featured Trio Artemis performing a program of works by Beethoven, Brahms, and Dvořák. The trio's dynamic and engaging performance was praised by critics and audience members alike, and helped to introduce a new generation of music lovers to the joys of chamber music. Another notable performance by Trio Artemis was their 2016 concert at the Berlin Philharmonic. The trio performed a program of works by Schubert, Brahms, and Shostakovich, showcasing their versatility and range as musicians. The concert was a critical and commercial success, and helped to cement Trio Artemis's reputation as one of the most exciting and innovative chamber music ensembles of their generation. In addition to their performances, Trio Artemis is also committed to education and outreach. The ensemble has worked with many young musicians, both through masterclasses and through their involvement with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center's education programs. They are also passionate advocates for the importance of classical music in contemporary society, and have spoken out about the need to make classical music more accessible and relevant to a wider audience.More....
