Genre:ChamberVocalJulian Rolton was a renowned classical pianist who was born on August 7, 1941, in London, England. He was the son of a music teacher and grew up in a musical family. His father was a pianist and his mother was a singer, and they both encouraged him to pursue a career in music. Rolton began playing the piano at a young age and showed great talent from the start. He studied at the Royal Academy of Music in London and later at the Juilliard School in New York City. He also studied with some of the most renowned pianists of his time, including Vladimir Horowitz and Arthur Rubinstein. Rolton made his debut as a soloist with the London Symphony Orchestra in 1963, and his performance was met with critical acclaim. He quickly became known for his virtuosic playing and his ability to bring out the emotional depth of the music he played. Over the course of his career, Rolton performed with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. He also performed at some of the most prestigious music festivals, such as the Salzburg Festival and the Edinburgh International Festival. One of the highlights of Rolton's career was his performance of Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5 with the London Symphony Orchestra in 1970. The performance was recorded and released on LP, and it remains one of the most highly regarded recordings of the concerto. Rolton was also a prolific recording artist, and he recorded many of the great works of the piano repertoire. His recordings of Chopin's Nocturnes and Schumann's Kinderszenen are particularly highly regarded. In addition to his performing career, Rolton was also a respected teacher. He taught at the Royal Academy of Music in London and at the Juilliard School in New York City. Many of his students went on to have successful careers as pianists themselves. Throughout his career, Rolton received many awards and honors. He was made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 1983, and he was awarded the Order of Merit by the German government in 1991. He was also awarded the Royal Philharmonic Society's Gold Medal in 1995, which is one of the highest honors in classical music. Sadly, Rolton's career was cut short by his untimely death in 1997 at the age of 56. He had been scheduled to perform at the Proms in London that year, but he passed away just a few weeks before the concert. Despite his relatively short career, Julian Rolton left a lasting legacy in the world of classical music. His virtuosic playing and his ability to bring out the emotional depth of the music he played continue to inspire and move audiences today.More....
