Role:ConductorFlorian Helgath is a renowned conductor and choral director in the world of classical music. Born in 1976 in Munich, Germany, Helgath showed an early interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of six. He later studied musicology, German literature, and philosophy at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich. Helgath's passion for choral music began during his time as a member of the Bavarian Radio Choir. He went on to study choral conducting at the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich, where he was mentored by renowned conductor Helmuth Rilling. In 2003, Helgath founded the Munich-based chamber choir, Chor des Bayerischen Rundfunks. Under his direction, the choir quickly gained recognition for its exceptional performances and innovative programming. In 2006, Helgath was appointed as the choir's principal conductor, a position he held until 2014. During his tenure with the Chor des Bayerischen Rundfunks, Helgath led the choir in numerous performances and recordings, including collaborations with renowned soloists and orchestras. In 2009, the choir was awarded the prestigious Echo Klassik award for their recording of Brahms' Ein deutsches Requiem. In addition to his work with the Chor des Bayerischen Rundfunks, Helgath has also conducted numerous other choirs and orchestras around the world. He has worked with the Netherlands Radio Choir, the RIAS Chamber Choir in Berlin, and the Swedish Radio Choir, among others. One of Helgath's most notable performances was his 2011 debut with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. He conducted the orchestra in a performance of Bach's Mass in B Minor, which was met with critical acclaim. The performance was later released on DVD and received the International Classical Music Award in 2013. Helgath has also been recognized for his work as a recording artist. In 2015, he received the German Record Critics' Award for his recording of Mendelssohn's Elijah with the Chor des Bayerischen Rundfunks and the Munich Radio Orchestra. In addition to his work as a conductor, Helgath is also a sought-after lecturer and educator. He has taught choral conducting at the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich and has led masterclasses and workshops around the world.
