Born on December 25, 1959, in Toronto, Canada, Edison grew up in a family that valued music and the arts. His father was a church organist, and his mother was a music teacher, which exposed him to music at an early age. Edison began his musical journey by learning to play the piano and the organ. He later studied music at the University of Toronto, where he earned a Bachelor of Music degree in 1982. He continued his studies at the University of British Columbia, where he earned a Master of Music degree in choral conducting in 1984. After completing his studies, Edison began his career as a conductor and musician. He served as the conductor of the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir from 1997 to 2018, where he led the choir in numerous performances and recordings. He also served as the artistic director of the Elora Festival from 1997 to 2018, where he helped to establish the festival as one of the premier music festivals in Canada. Throughout his career, Edison conducted numerous orchestras and choirs, both in Canada and internationally. He was known for his ability to bring out the best in his performers and for his attention to detail. His performances were often praised for their clarity, precision, and emotional depth. One of the highlights of Edison's career was his performance of Handel's Messiah with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra in 2016. The performance was widely acclaimed for its energy, passion, and musicality. Edison's interpretation of the piece was praised for its clarity and for the way it brought out the emotional depth of the music. Edison was also known for his work with contemporary composers. He commissioned and premiered numerous works by Canadian composers, including R. Murray Schafer, John Burge, and James Rolfe.
