He grew up in a family of musicians, with his father being a renowned violinist and his mother a pianist. From a young age, Helmut showed a keen interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of four. Helmut's parents recognized his talent and encouraged him to pursue a career in music. He began taking piano lessons with his mother and later studied under the tutelage of several renowned pianists, including Martha Argerich and Alfred Brendel. In 1983, Helmut made his debut as a solo pianist at the Vienna Musikverein. The performance was a huge success, and Helmut received critical acclaim for his technical prowess and musicality. This marked the beginning of his career as a concert pianist.
