He was the son of a violinist and began playing the violin at a young age. His father, who was his first teacher, recognized his talent and encouraged him to pursue a career in music. Campoli's talent was evident from an early age, and he quickly gained recognition as a prodigy. He made his debut performance at the age of ten, playing the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto with the Rome Symphony Orchestra. He continued to perform throughout his childhood and teenage years, and by the time he was in his early twenties, he had established himself as one of the most promising young violinists in Italy. In 1929, Campoli moved to London, where he continued to perform and study under the renowned violinist Carl Flesch. He quickly gained a reputation as a virtuoso performer, and his performances were praised for their technical brilliance and emotional depth. Throughout the 1930s and 1940s, Campoli performed extensively throughout Europe, both as a soloist and as a member of various orchestras. He also made several recordings, which were highly acclaimed and helped to establish him as one of the leading violinists of his time. One of Campoli's most notable performances took place in 1949, when he played the Brahms Violin Concerto with the London Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Sir Adrian Boult. The performance was widely praised, and it helped to cement Campoli's reputation as one of the greatest violinists of his generation. In addition to his performances, Campoli was also a respected teacher and mentor to many young musicians. He taught at the Royal Academy of Music in London and was known for his dedication to his students and his ability to inspire them to achieve their full potential. Throughout his career, Campoli received numerous awards and honors for his contributions to classical music. In 1953, he was awarded the Order of Merit by the Italian government, and in 1969, he was made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) for his services to music. Despite his many achievements, Campoli remained humble and dedicated to his craft throughout his life. He continued to perform and teach until his death in 1991, at the age of 84. His legacy lives on through his recordings, which continue to inspire and delight classical music lovers around the world.More....
