Oren Fader is a renowned classical guitarist and educator, known for his virtuosic performances and dedication to contemporary music. Born in New York City in 1964, Fader began playing guitar at the age of 10 and quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument. He studied with several notable teachers, including Jerry Willard and David Starobin, and went on to earn degrees from the Manhattan School of Music and Yale University. Throughout his career, Fader has been a champion of new music, commissioning and premiering works by some of the most important composers of our time. He has collaborated with a wide range of artists, including the Bang on a Can All-Stars, the New York Philharmonic, and the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. He has also performed extensively as a soloist, giving recitals and concerts throughout the United States and Europe. One of Fader's most notable achievements was his performance of the complete solo guitar works of Elliott Carter, which he recorded for the Bridge Records label. The project was a massive undertaking, requiring Fader to learn and perform over 90 pieces by the legendary composer. The resulting recordings were widely praised for their technical brilliance and musical sensitivity, and helped to establish Fader as one of the foremost interpreters of contemporary music for the guitar. In addition to his work as a performer, Fader is also a dedicated educator. He has taught at several prestigious institutions, including the Manhattan School of Music, Columbia University, and the New England Conservatory of Music. He is currently on the faculty of the Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College, where he teaches guitar and chamber music. Throughout his career, Fader has received numerous awards and accolades for his contributions to the world of classical music. In 2005, he was awarded the prestigious Aaron Copland Award for his work as a performer and educator. He has also been the recipient of grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and the New York State Council on the Arts. Despite his many accomplishments, Fader remains humble and dedicated to his craft. He continues to perform and record new music, and is always seeking out new challenges and opportunities to grow as an artist.
