She later attended the Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatory in St. Petersburg, where she studied under the guidance of Professor Tamara Novichenko. Gorchakova's career began in 1985 when she won the International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow. This victory launched her career, and she quickly became one of the most sought-after sopranos in the world. Her voice was known for its rich, warm tone and its ability to convey emotion and depth. Gorchakova's first major performance was in 1988 when she sang the role of Tatiana in Tchaikovsky's opera Eugene Onegin at the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg. This performance was a huge success, and it established Gorchakova as a rising star in the world of opera. She went on to perform in many other operas, including Verdi's La traviata, Puccini's Tosca, and Mozart's Don Giovanni.
