Sinfonietta de Montréal is a classical music ensemble based in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The ensemble was founded in 1998 by conductor and pianist Louis Lavigueur, with the aim of promoting contemporary classical music and providing a platform for emerging Canadian composers. The ensemble's core members include violinists Antoine Bareil and Marie-Andrée Benny, violist Frédéric Lambert, cellist Raphaël Dubé, and pianist Louise-Andrée Baril. Over the years, the ensemble has collaborated with a wide range of guest artists, including conductors, soloists, and chamber musicians. Sinfonietta de Montréal has performed extensively throughout Canada and internationally, with highlights including appearances at the Montreal Chamber Music Festival, the Ottawa Chamberfest, and the Festival de Lanaudière. The ensemble has also been featured on numerous radio and television broadcasts, including CBC Radio and Radio-Canada. One of the ensemble's most notable achievements was the premiere of Canadian composer Denis Gougeon's "Symphonie du millénaire" in 2000. The work, which was commissioned by Sinfonietta de Montréal, was performed to critical acclaim and went on to win the 2001 Juno Award for Best Classical Composition. In addition to its performances and recordings, Sinfonietta de Montréal is also committed to music education and outreach. The ensemble regularly presents workshops and masterclasses for young musicians, and has collaborated with schools and community organizations to bring classical music to a wider audience.
