Artist Info
Il Pomo d'Oro is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2012. The ensemble is known for its performances of Baroque and Classical music, and has gained a reputation for its innovative and dynamic interpretations of these genres. The founding members of Il Pomo d'Oro were Maxim Emelyanychev, Riccardo Minasi, and Dmitry Sinkovsky. Emelyanychev serves as the ensemble's principal conductor and harpsichordist, while Minasi and Sinkovsky are both violinists. The ensemble also includes a number of other talented musicians, including cellist Anton Babaev, violist Dmitry Lepekhov, and bassoonist Alberto Grazzi. Il Pomo d'Oro takes its name from the opera "Il pomo d'oro" by Antonio Cesti, which was first performed in Vienna in 1668. The ensemble's name translates to "The Golden Apple," which is a reference to the mythological story of the golden apple that was awarded to the most beautiful goddess by Paris of Troy. Since its founding, Il Pomo d'Oro has performed at some of the world's most prestigious concert halls and festivals. The ensemble has been featured at the Salzburg Festival, the Edinburgh International Festival, and the BBC Proms, among others. Il Pomo d'Oro has also collaborated with a number of renowned soloists, including mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato, countertenor Philippe Jaroussky, and soprano Anna Prohaska. One of the highlights of Il Pomo d'Oro's career was its performance at the 2015 Salzburg Festival, where the ensemble presented a program of works by Handel and Vivaldi. The concert was widely praised for its energy and virtuosity, and cemented Il Pomo d'Oro's reputation as one of the most exciting and innovative ensembles in the classical music world. In addition to its live performances, Il Pomo d'Oro has also released a number of critically acclaimed recordings. The ensemble's debut album, "Concerti per violino III," was released in 2013 and featured works by Vivaldi, Tartini, and Locatelli. The album was praised for its technical precision and emotional depth, and was named one of the best classical recordings of the year by several publications. Il Pomo d'Oro has also been recognized with a number of awards and honors. In 2014, the ensemble was awarded the Echo Klassik Award for its recording of Handel's "Ariodante," which featured Joyce DiDonato in the title role. The following year, Il Pomo d'Oro was named "Ensemble of the Year" at the International Opera Awards. Overall, Il Pomo d'Oro has quickly established itself as one of the most exciting and innovative ensembles in the classical music world. With its dynamic performances, innovative interpretations, and talented musicians, the ensemble is sure to continue to captivate audiences for years to come.More....
