His father was a composer and conductor, and his mother was a pianist. Haselböck grew up in a musical family and started playing the piano at a young age. He later switched to the organ, which became his primary instrument. Haselböck studied at the Vienna Academy of Music and Performing Arts, where he received his diploma in organ performance. He also studied conducting with Hans Swarowsky and composition with Friedrich Cerha. Haselböck continued his studies in Paris with Marie-Claire Alain and in Amsterdam with Gustav Leonhardt. Haselböck made his debut as an organist in 1975 at the Vienna Konzerthaus. He quickly gained recognition for his virtuosic playing and became a sought-after performer.
