He also studied with Johann Pachelbel, a famous composer and organist. Johann Bernhard Bach began his career as a musician in 1694 when he became the organist at the St. Boniface Church in Arnstadt. He held this position for two years before moving to Mühlhausen, where he became the organist at the Church of Divi Blasii. In 1703, he moved to Weimar, where he became the court organist and chamber musician for Duke Johann Ernst III. During his time in Weimar, Johann Bernhard Bach composed a number of works, including cantatas, sonatas, and keyboard music. His music was highly regarded by his contemporaries, and he was considered one of the leading composers of his time. He was also known for his skill as an organist and harpsichordist.
