Blanc's musical career began in 1943 when he won first prize in a singing competition in Toulouse. This led to his debut performance as a soloist in a concert of Bach's St. Matthew Passion. He then went on to study at the Paris Conservatory, where he was a student of Claire Croiza and Pierre Bernac. In 1947, Blanc made his debut at the Paris Opera as Escamillo in Bizet's Carmen. This was the beginning of a long and successful career as an opera singer. Blanc quickly became known for his powerful voice and his ability to convey emotion through his singing. Over the years, Blanc performed in many of the world's most prestigious opera houses, including the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the Royal Opera House in London, and La Scala in Milan. He was particularly renowned for his performances in the operas of Mozart, Verdi, and Wagner. One of Blanc's most memorable performances was in the role of Don Giovanni in Mozart's opera of the same name. Blanc also had a successful career as a concert singer. He performed in many of the world's most famous concert halls, including Carnegie Hall in New York and the Royal Albert Hall in London. He was particularly known for his performances of French art songs, and he recorded many of these songs throughout his career. Blanc received many awards and honors throughout his career. In 1953, he was awarded the Grand Prix du Disque for his recording of Ravel's Don Quichotte à Dulcinée. In 1961, he was made a Chevalier of the Legion of Honor, one of France's highest honors. He was also awarded the Order of Merit by the Italian government in recognition of his contributions to Italian culture. Blanc retired from performing in 1985, but he continued to be involved in the music world. He taught at the Paris Conservatory and served as the director of the Opéra de Marseille.
