Kammer Ensemble de Paris is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 1990 by a group of musicians who shared a passion for chamber music. The ensemble is based in Paris, France, and is known for its innovative programming and virtuosic performances. The founding members of Kammer Ensemble de Paris were violinist Jean-Marc Phillips-Varjabédian, cellist Raphaël Pidoux, and pianist François-Frédéric Guy. All three musicians had established successful solo careers before coming together to form the ensemble, and they brought their individual talents and experiences to the group. From the beginning, Kammer Ensemble de Paris was committed to exploring the rich repertoire of chamber music, from the Baroque era to contemporary works. The ensemble's programming was characterized by a mix of well-known masterpieces and lesser-known gems, and the musicians were known for their adventurous and imaginative interpretations. Over the years, Kammer Ensemble de Paris has expanded its membership to include a rotating cast of musicians, depending on the repertoire being performed. However, the core trio of Phillips-Varjabédian, Pidoux, and Guy has remained at the heart of the ensemble, and their musical chemistry and rapport are a hallmark of the group's performances. One of the highlights of Kammer Ensemble de Paris's early career was their debut performance at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris in 1991. The ensemble's program included works by Beethoven, Brahms, and Schumann, and the performance was met with critical acclaim. This success led to more high-profile engagements, including performances at the Festival de Radio France et Montpellier and the Festival de la Roque d'Anthéron. In 1995, Kammer Ensemble de Paris released their first album, featuring works by Schubert and Brahms. The album was well-received by critics and helped to establish the ensemble's reputation as one of the leading chamber music groups in France. Over the years, Kammer Ensemble de Paris has continued to perform and record extensively, with a repertoire that spans the centuries. The ensemble has collaborated with a wide range of musicians, including pianist Nicholas Angelich, violinist Renaud Capuçon, and cellist Gautier Capuçon. One of the ensemble's most notable collaborations was with composer and conductor Pierre Boulez, who worked with Kammer Ensemble de Paris on a recording of his own works. The album, released in 2000, featured Boulez's "Dérive 2" and "Messagesquisse," and was praised for its precision and clarity. In addition to their performances and recordings, Kammer Ensemble de Paris has also been recognized with numerous awards and honors. In 1998, the ensemble was awarded the Grand Prix du Disque for their recording of Schumann's Piano Quartet and Piano Quintet. They have also been awarded the Diapason d'Or and the Choc de la Musique for their recordings. Today, Kammer Ensemble de Paris continues to be one of the most respected and admired chamber music ensembles in France and beyond. The ensemble's commitment to exploring the full range of chamber music repertoire, combined with their virtuosic performances and innovative programming, has earned them a devoted following and a place among the great chamber music groups of our time.
