Born on December 22, 1953, in Paris, France, Brosse showed an early interest in music and began studying the piano at the age of six. He later went on to study composition and conducting at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris. Brosse's career as a conductor began in the early 1980s when he was appointed as the musical director of the Orchestre de Chambre de Paris. He quickly gained a reputation for his innovative programming and his ability to bring out the best in his musicians. In 1985, he was appointed as the principal conductor of the Orchestre National de Lille, a position he held for six years. During his tenure with the Orchestre National de Lille, Brosse gained international recognition for his performances of contemporary music. He commissioned and premiered works by some of the most important composers of the time, including Luciano Berio, György Ligeti, and Karlheinz Stockhausen. He also recorded several albums with the orchestra, including a critically acclaimed recording of the complete orchestral works of Maurice Ravel. In 1991, Brosse was appointed as the principal conductor of the Orchestre Philharmonique de Nice, a position he held for five years.
