Born on August 22, 1972, in Riga, Latvia, Darzins grew up in a family of musicians. Her father, Maris Darzins, was a renowned Latvian composer, and her mother, Inara Darzina, was a pianist. From a young age, Darzins showed a natural talent for music and began playing the violin at the age of four. Darzins received her early musical education at the Emils Darzins Music School in Riga, where she studied with renowned violinist and pedagogue, Valdis Zarinš. She later continued her studies at the Latvian Academy of Music with Professor Jānis Vītols. In 1991, Darzins moved to the United States to pursue further studies at the Cleveland Institute of Music, where she studied with David Cerone and Donald Weilerstein. Throughout her career, Darzins has been recognized for her exceptional talent and musicianship. In 1993, she won first prize in the Cleveland Institute of Music Concerto Competition, and in 1994, she was awarded the prestigious Josef Gingold Award. In 1995, Darzins was a finalist in the International Violin Competition of Indianapolis, and in 1996, she won first prize in the Corpus Christi International Competition for Young String Players. Darzins has performed as a soloist with numerous orchestras, including the Cleveland Orchestra, the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra, the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, and the Corpus Christi Symphony Orchestra. She has also given recitals and chamber music performances throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia. In addition to her work as a performer, Darzins is also an accomplished conductor. She has served as the music director and conductor of the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra, the Cleveland Institute of Music Orchestra, and the Cleveland Women's Orchestra. Darzins has also been a guest conductor with numerous orchestras, including the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, and the National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine. Darzins is also a dedicated educator and has taught at several prestigious institutions, including the Cleveland Institute of Music, the University of Akron, and the University of Michigan. She has also served as a faculty member at several summer music festivals, including the Meadowmount School of Music and the Bowdoin International Music Festival. Throughout her career, Darzins has been recognized for her contributions to the world of classical music. In 2001, she was awarded the Latvian Great Music Award, the highest honor given to musicians in Latvia. In 2005, she was awarded the Cleveland Arts Prize for Music, and in 2010, she was named a Distinguished Alumni of the Cleveland Institute of Music.
