Guy began playing the double bass at the age of 17 and went on to study at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. In addition to his work with the London Jazz Composers Orchestra, Guy has also collaborated with a wide range of musicians and ensembles from around the world. He has performed and recorded with the likes of Evan Parker, Derek Bailey, and John Stevens, among others. He has also worked with classical ensembles such as the Arditti Quartet and the Ensemble Modern. His compositions are known for their complex rhythms, intricate harmonies, and innovative use of extended techniques. Some of his most notable works include "Fallingwater," a piece for string quartet and double bass, and "Inscape-Tableaux," a work for large ensemble that was commissioned by the BBC. In addition to his work as a composer and performer, Guy is also a respected educator. He has taught at a number of institutions, including the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, the Royal Academy of Music, and the Hochschule der Künste in Berlin.
