From a young age, White showed a keen interest in music and began singing in his school choir. He later went on to study music at the Royal Academy of Music in London. White's career in music began in the early 1980s when he joined the Glyndebourne Festival Opera. He quickly established himself as a talented performer and was soon offered roles in other major opera houses across Europe. In 1985, he made his debut at the Royal Opera House in London, playing the role of the King in Verdi's "Aida."
