She continued her studies and eventually won a scholarship to the New South Wales State Conservatorium of Music in Sydney. There, she studied under the renowned soprano Florence Austral. After completing her studies, Elsie began performing in concerts and recitals throughout Australia. Elsie made her debut at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden in 1950, singing the role of Pamina in Mozart's "The Magic Flute."
