Born on December 16, 1919, in Bucharest, Romania, Théodoresco showed an early aptitude for music and began studying piano at the age of six. Her talent was quickly recognized, and she was accepted into the Bucharest Conservatory at the age of ten. Under the tutelage of renowned pianist Florica Musicescu, Théodoresco honed her skills and developed a deep understanding of the nuances of classical music. She quickly gained a reputation as a prodigy, and by the age of 14, she was performing in public concerts and recitals. Her talent was further recognized when she won first prize at the International Piano Competition in Vienna in 1936, at the age of 16. Théodoresco's career continued to flourish throughout the 1930s and 1940s, as she performed extensively throughout Europe and the United States. She was particularly renowned for her interpretations of the works of Chopin, which she imbued with a sense of emotional depth and sensitivity that was unmatched by her contemporaries. Despite these difficulties, she continued to perform and record, and her reputation as one of the world's greatest pianists only continued to grow. In addition to her performances, Théodoresco was also a respected teacher and mentor to many young pianists. She taught at the Bucharest Conservatory for many years, and her students included some of the most talented pianists of the next generation. Her teaching style was marked by a deep commitment to the music and a focus on developing a strong technical foundation. Théodoresco's contributions to the world of classical music were recognized with numerous awards and honors throughout her career. She was awarded the Order of the Star of Romania, one of the country's highest honors, in 1964. She was also awarded the title of Honorary Citizen of Bucharest in 1999, in recognition of her contributions to the city's cultural life.
