Genre:ChamberThe Goldner String Quartet is a renowned classical music ensemble that has been captivating audiences around the world for over 25 years. The quartet was founded in 1995 by four Australian musicians who shared a passion for chamber music and a desire to create a world-class ensemble. The founding members of the Goldner String Quartet were Dene Olding (violin), Dimity Hall (violin), Irina Morozova (viola), and Julian Smiles (cello). All four musicians were accomplished soloists and chamber musicians in their own right, but they came together to form the quartet with the goal of exploring the rich and diverse repertoire of string quartet music. The quartet takes its name from Richard Goldner, an Australian musician and music lover who was instrumental in the development of classical music in Australia. Goldner was a passionate supporter of chamber music and founded the Musica Viva Australia organization, which has been promoting chamber music in Australia since 1945. From the very beginning, the Goldner String Quartet was committed to excellence in performance and to exploring the full range of the string quartet repertoire. The quartet quickly gained a reputation for its technical precision, musical sensitivity, and innovative programming. Over the years, the quartet has performed at some of the world's most prestigious concert halls and music festivals, including the Wigmore Hall in London, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, and the Sydney Opera House. They have also collaborated with some of the world's leading musicians, including pianist Piers Lane, clarinetist Michael Collins, and cellist Li-Wei Qin. One of the highlights of the Goldner String Quartet's career was their performance at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney. The quartet was chosen to perform at the opening ceremony, where they played a specially commissioned piece by Australian composer Peter Sculthorpe. The performance was broadcast to millions of people around the world and helped to raise the profile of classical music in Australia. The quartet has also been recognized with numerous awards and accolades over the years. In 1997, they won the prestigious Banff International String Quartet Competition, which helped to launch their international career. They have also won several ARIA Awards (the Australian equivalent of the Grammy Awards) for their recordings, including Best Classical Album in 2009 for their recording of the complete Beethoven string quartets. In addition to their performances and recordings, the Goldner String Quartet is also committed to music education and outreach. They have worked with young musicians in Australia and around the world, mentoring and coaching the next generation of chamber musicians. They have also been involved in community outreach programs, bringing classical music to audiences who might not otherwise have the opportunity to experience it. Today, the Goldner String Quartet continues to be one of the most respected and admired chamber music ensembles in the world. They have recorded over 20 albums, including complete cycles of the Beethoven and Shostakovich string quartets, and continue to perform regularly at major concert halls and festivals around the world. Their commitment to excellence in performance, innovative programming, and music education ensures that they will continue to be a major force in the world of classical music for many years to come.More....
