The ensemble takes its name from Marie-Thérèse Parrenin, who was a founding member and violist of the group. The members of Quatuor Parrenin are all accomplished musicians in their own right. Jean-Jacques Kantorow is a renowned violinist and conductor who has performed with many of the world's leading orchestras. Pierre Barbizet is a violinist who has also served as concertmaster of the Orchestre National de France. Marie-Thérèse Parrenin is a violist who has performed with many of the world's leading orchestras and chamber ensembles. Roland Pidoux is a cellist who has also served as principal cellist of the Orchestre National de France. Quatuor Parrenin has performed extensively throughout Europe, Asia, and North America. The ensemble has been praised for its technical precision, musical sensitivity, and expressive interpretations of classical repertoire. The group has also been recognized for its innovative programming, which often includes lesser-known works alongside more familiar pieces. One of the highlights of Quatuor Parrenin's career was its performance of the complete cycle of Beethoven's string quartets at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris in 1987. The cycle was performed over the course of six concerts, and was widely praised for its musical depth and emotional intensity. The ensemble has also performed the complete cycles of string quartets by Mozart, Schubert, and Bartók. Quatuor Parrenin has recorded extensively, with over 30 albums to its name. The ensemble's recordings have received numerous awards and accolades, including the Grand Prix du Disque and the Diapason d'Or. Some of the group's most acclaimed recordings include its interpretations of the string quartets of Beethoven, Mozart, and Schubert. In addition to its performances and recordings, Quatuor Parrenin has also been active in music education. The ensemble has conducted masterclasses and workshops for young musicians, and has served as artists-in-residence at several universities and conservatories. Despite changes in personnel over the years, Quatuor Parrenin has remained a vital and respected presence in the world of classical music. The ensemble's commitment to musical excellence and innovation has earned it a place among the most distinguished chamber ensembles of its generation.More....
