Raphaël Pichon is a French conductor, singer, and founder of the ensemble Pygmalion. He was born on June 13, 1984, in the city of Nantes, France. Pichon grew up in a musical family, with his mother being a pianist and his father a musicologist. He began his musical education at a young age, studying piano and singing in a choir. Pichon continued his musical studies at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris, where he studied choral conducting and singing. He also studied with renowned conductors such as Pierre Boulez and Sir Simon Rattle. During his time at the conservatory, Pichon founded the ensemble Pygmalion, which specializes in performing Baroque and Classical music. In 2006, Pichon made his debut as a conductor with the ensemble Les Arts Florissants, led by William Christie. He quickly gained recognition for his talent and was invited to conduct other prestigious ensembles such as the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra. Pichon's career as a conductor has been marked by numerous highlights and achievements. In 2012, he was appointed as the principal conductor of the Ensemble Pygmalion, which has since become one of the leading ensembles in France. He has also been a guest conductor with many of the world's top orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. One of Pichon's most notable performances was his interpretation of Mozart's Requiem in D minor, which he conducted with the Ensemble Pygmalion in 2013.
